AMS 4951 is an SAE International Aerospace Material Specification covering commercially pure titanium welding wire supplied to SAE aerospace requirements.
AMS specifications are product-specific aerospace requirements. The exact AMS number and required revision should be stated rather than using “AMS titanium” as a generic material description.
Product Forms
- Welding wire
- Material composition and identification requirements applicable to the specification.
- Product condition, processing, testing, inspection, dimensions or tolerances, marking and certification requirements defined by the applicable revision.
Important Distinction
An AMS specification and an ASTM grade designation may describe closely related material, but they are not automatically interchangeable. Order and certify to the exact specification required by the customer or design authority.
Related Standards
- ASTM titanium standards where an ASTM product specification is required instead of AMS.
- Any customer, aircraft manufacturer or OEM specification stated on the purchase order.
Ordering and Certification
State the AMS number and required revision, alloy or material designation, product form, dimensions, condition, quantity and any additional OEM or customer requirements. Aerospace orders can include supplementary traceability, NDT, surface-condition or process-control requirements beyond the base material specification.
Standards note: This page is a practical overview and is not a substitute for the official standard. Standards are revised periodically, and requirements can vary by edition, product form and application. Always state the required standard and revision on the purchase order and verify compliance against the applicable specification and material test report (MTR).
