Plasma-Rotating Electrode Process (PREP)
Titanium powder is produced through several methods include the Plasma Rotating Electrode Process (PREP). In this technique, a titanium bar or rod is rotated at high speed while a plasma arc or gas torch melts the end of the bar. Centrifugal force causes the molten titanium to be ejected from the rod, forming fine droplets that cool and solidify into powder.

- Out-of-round is the difference between the maximum and minimum diameters of the bar, measured at the same cross section.
- Out-of-square section is the difference in the two dimensions at the same cross section of a square bar, each dimension being the distance between opposite faces.
